Grade 5 Wilderness Awareness Course |
| |
| September has been full of exciting events here in the Southern African Region. Wilderwise hosted its annual wilderness awareness course for the Victoria Falls Primary School Grade 5 kids. This year the five day course was located at Jafuta, a quaint little lodge in the middle of Fuller Forest. Each day contained a full schedule of learning survival skills in the bush as well as enjoying good food and fun. The kids were put into groups: Cheetahs, Leopards, Lions, and Tigers. Each group was given an animal and a plant to do research projects on which they presented to Wilderwise on October 11, 2005. During the same time Wildewise presented each participant a Bush Awareness Completion Certificate.

WilderWise Intern Emily Mehlman with 10 month old Izibulo at Elephant camp. |
We currently have two pre-vet students from the University of Colorado visiting us for two and half months. They are working at the Elephant Camp in Zimbabwe, observing the different behaviors of all the elephants and are preparing a portfolio for the company. They were able to participate in the phenomenon of an elephant calf being born as well as increasing their overall knowledge of African elephants. At the end of October the two interns will continue their African education and adventures at a lion breeding/ conservation facility. |

Jabulani School Project |
The Jabulani School Project is a work in progress. Wilderwise, Brandi Green and Megan Smith would like to thank once again all those who have been so generous in their donations. So far we have managed to order a water meter which will allow the school access to water for the children to drink and for growing gardens. We are trying to establish a sufficient school lunch program that will provide each student one meal a day during school hours. A roof for the school kitchen has been built as well from thatching purchased with the money donated. In Zimbabwe resources are limited and can therefore make a project more difficult to accomplish. [All efforts are being made to put to use the money that has been gratefully donated to Jabulani. ] For any further questions about the Jabulani project or how you can contribute to the cause please feel free to contact Brandi Green: brandi@wilderwise.com. Updates on the progress of the school will continue to be posted under the Wilderwise news letter. |
