Impala Translocation

The last week of April, WilderWise used Director Roger Parry's darting skills along with Ian Dupree's darting expertise to translocate ten impala from the Elephant Hills Golf Course to the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge (Saf Lodge), in Victoria Falls Zimbabwe.  With poaching on the Golf Course being very high, this tr
anslocation was an effort to decrease the poaching, as well as animal impact on the Golf Course.  In addition, Saf Lodge now has 10 impala on site to add to the warthogs, monkeys, and indigenous wildlife that frequent their gardens.

Rhino Tracking Safari

Black Rhino

This year's Rhino Tracking Safaris for WilderWise interns is looking like a fabulous year for game viewing and tracking the elusive rhinos.  In May 2005 WilderWise Directors and the Safari Guide went to check out Hwange National Park to see how this year is shaping up, and with low rainfall, and warmer temperatures, the game is coming out of the bush.
In three days on Safari, we came across 6 rhino including the very handsome gentleman here.  This black Rhino came down for a drink and we were able to get within a few meters of him, a photographers dream.  He was not disturbed and we were always a safe distance from the Rhino.
For those of you interns looking at the Rhino tracking safari, this is going to be a good year.  We also had the opportunity to see quite clearly both bull and cow elephants, as well as much of the plains game.  Two people in our party even came across a beautiful male cheetah looking for the evening's supper.
We hope you will join us for one of our intern safari's.  For more information please click on

Anti-Poaching Efforts

Roger Parry cleaning out Snare Wound on Savanna Buffalo
In Zimbabwe, the economic climate and shortages of many goods often leaves people without food staples.  They often turn to poaching of wood and animals to help sustain themselves and their families.  Unfortunately, this leaves many animals snared and wounded.  WilderWise works with local anti-poaching organizations such as the Victoria Falls Anti-Poaching Unit (VFAPU) to combat poaching and preserve the main thing Zimbabwe depends on for tourism...its wildlife and the environment that supports it.
WilderWise recently participated in Anti-poaching efforts in the Bumi Hills area to rescue buffalo and elephants wounded by snares.  The buffalo on the left is a  young male buffalo that had his leg caught in a snare.  WilderWise director Roger Parry was able to dart the buffalo, remove the snare, clean the wound and give long-lasting anti-biotic to give the buffalo a better chance of survival.
The VFAPU is a volunteer organization.  All anti-poaching efforts are done voluntarily without pay.  We thank those of you that are supporters and give your time and donations to the VFAPU to help support our efforts against poaching.   For more information about VFAPU, and how you can help, please E-mail
